LEWA WILDLIFE CONSERVANCY

Lewa is sandwiched between Samburu National Reserve and Mt.Kenya National Park. The Conservancy lies on a 45,000 acre land and is privately owned. Also known as Lewa Downs, it was formed in 1995. Its home to the rare, semi-aquatic Sitatunga antelope and the rare African dog is sometimes seen. It has a variety of other wildlife such as the Lion, Cheetah, Elephant, reticulated Giraffe, a large Black and White Rhino population, Buffalo, Hartebeest, Bushbuck, Gerenuk, Gunther’s dikdik and Somali Ostrich.

Definitely, Lewa is one of Kenya’s center stages for a sport’s tourist, with 12 editions already down; the 13^th edition of the Safaricom Marathon is set to take place on Saturday 30^th June 2012 at the Conservancy, a perfect opportunity to mingle with the jungle. The Marathon is one of the most grueling challenges in the world of sports but also spectacular at the same time.

There is a fusion of other activities and experiences in Lewa to sample out. They range from Horseback and Camel riding, hiking, day and night game drives in open four wheel drive Vehicles and Cultural visits to the local N’gwesi Community.
