In the past few days after Kenya’s
West (Western Kenya Tourist circuit), I received three mails seeking some
info on the available accommodation around Saiwa Swamp National Park.
After some digging I found two reliable
accommodation facilities;
KWS Saiwa Swamp Campsite
Located near the main gate, it’s
shaded with an excellent view of the swamp. Its facilities include: two covered
cooking areas, each with barbecues and picnic tables, flush lavatories and
showers. Allocation is on a first-come first-served basis and camping fees
payable to KWS warden’s office at the main gate. More info; KWS
The Barnley House
Also known as the Sirikwa
Guesthouse and campsite. The guest house offers three furnished tents and a
selection of bedrooms in a guest wing of an old family home. It is surrounded by a superb garden in which
visitors can camp. Firewood, electricity, hot showers and flush lavatories are
available as are cooking facilities and meals. Location description; 23km from Kitale Museum turn-off. Follow the
directions for Saiwa Swamp but at Kipsaina continue on the Lodwar road in the
direction of Kapenguria. After 5km, you’ll see the sign (Saiwa Safaris) and the
