CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) nations are now required to undertake DNA
testing of all large ivory seizures to track to the smugglers' source. Compulsory forensic testing of seized tusks will enable countries to
trace criminal chains and track the ivory’s country of origin. CITES is an international agreement between governments. Its aim is to ensure
that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does
not threaten their survival.
