It seems there is no love lost between Ewaso Nyiro River and
lodges from Samburu and Isiolo Counties. Every time there are rains upstream in
the Aberdares, the river goes visiting and in the process leaves a trail of
destruction, sweeping away lodges’ structures and furniture.
Soldiers control people crossing the river at a bridge after it broke banks March 5, 2010.
A few days ago, the swollen river led to destruction of
properties worth millions of shillings with some of the affected lodges being
Ashnil and Elephant Bedroom lodges erected along the banks of the river. Ashil
is said to have been submerged completely.
It’s high time the government employed a lasting solution to
this problem because, an earlier constructed and commissioned bridge no longer
helps after the river diverted course.
